St Joan of Arc’s ninth trip to Udayan

We are delighted that 10 students and 2 teachers from St Joan of Arc Catholic School in Rickmansworth will be setting off to Kolkata, India in less than a week’s time. Prior to the covid 19 pandemic, these trips had taken place every other year with the last being in 2019. This trip will be the first in five years and no doubt the energy and enthusiasm of the students and staff will be as high as it has been previously. Whilst in India they will spend the majority of the time at Udayan – a home for children of leprosy sufferers in Kolkata which has been a whole school charity for St Joan’s since 2004 as well as visiting other NGOs connected to City of Joy Aid, UK.

The group who will be going to India to visit Udayan includes 10 students (Lola Boi, Michael Bradfield, Evangeline Delargy, Madeleine Drury, Charlotte McEvaddy, Emily McEvaddy, Ruby O’Connor, Isabel Perez-Pineda, Amy Rodrigues, Eva Wise) together with 2 teachers Liam Lynch and Becky Bowden. This will be Liam’s first trip as a newly appointed trustee of the charity and they will be accompanied by former student and trustee – Chris Mann.

Let’s remind ourselves of the 2019 dance to Aankah Marey the eight students, Liam Lynch (school chaplain) and Aileen St Ledger (geography teacher) performed for the children at the gala celebration on their last night at Udayan.
