Le Tour de Province of Westminster

Peter Sweeney, the headteacher of St Joan of Arc Catholic School Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, has announced today that he will attempt to visit all five Cathedrals within the Ecclesiastical Province of Westminster in 24 hours. From Rickmansworth Peter will be heading to Northampton, Nottingham, Norwich, Brentwood and Westminster before returning to the school all by pedal-power. Peter, who will be 57 in August, will be be supported by Dcn. Liam Lynch, the school’s chaplain,  another colleague and his 18 year old son in a support vehicle.

The challenge begins on Friday 28 June 2019 departing from St Joan of Arc at 9am and will visit St John’s Catholic Primary School, Mill End before it begins properly. The aim is to return to St Joan of Arc between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday 29 June during the school’s summer fayre – ‘Party in the Arc’.

This solo fundraising initiative being taken on by Peter will be raising funds for the school’s whole school charity – Udayan, a home, school and medical centre for children affected by leprosy in Kolkata, India. The home founded with the inspiration and help of Saint Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa) in 1970 by the late Rev. James Stevens who borrowed a minibus from Mother Teresa on her instruction to help the poorest of the poorest of the poor which at the time was the lepers of Kolkata.
